Design, Assembly, Installation & Commissioning of High Voltage Protection Systems & Control System Integration Solutions
Originally called IDEC, the company was founded in Teesside in 1976. The company originally specialised in Instrumentation and Electrical Engineering Design and Project Management. Since then, it has expanded over the decades with over 150 staff and 5 offices across Northern England and Scotland. As IDEC Technical Services Limited, it covered the following business areas:
- High Voltage Protection Systems
- High Voltage Protection Refurbishments
- High Voltage Substation Design
- Substation Installation and Commissioning Services
- Instrumentation and Control Systems & System Integration
- The Manufacture of HV Packaged Substations and Control Rooms Including Control and Electrical protection panels
In 2022, Keltbray Group acquired IDEC and the company was renamed to Keltbray-IDEC Limited. The future sees the company become part of a broader power engineering offering within Keltbray Energy, and part of Keltbray’s plan for strategic growth in the utilities and power sector.
Keltbray-IDEC is a Control System Integration and High Voltage Protection Engineering Company
We can provide in-house total Electrical & ICA Services – Design, Panel Assembly, Site Installation, Testing, Commissioning, and back-up services including: –
- Network analysis for H V distribution systems using DIgSILENT Software.
- Electrical power systems including substation design, installation, and commissioning.
- Feasibility studies and technical audits.
- Conceptual design and consultancy.
- Design and construct.
- Specification and procurement of the panels, relays, and components, etc.
- Design and manage.
- Testing and commissioning.
- Fault studies, protection schemes, and grading.
Power system engineering has grown to become a sophisticated and continually changing science with a responsibility to ensure safe engineering practices, practical engineering solutions and cost-effective uses of energy.
A complete documentation package is always provided and for all panels we carry out a point-to-point wiring check, insulation test and panel functionality tests.
In addition, our manual includes supplier propriety operation and maintenance details of equipment together with the relays used. The manual also includes copies of all test results of works tests and applicable Certificates of Conformity.
Keltbray-IDEC’s aim is to work in partnership with the client in the design, management, and installation and commissioning of Control and Protection systems, meeting the high expectations of today’s market place. Within the engineering and construction business IDEC recognises that profitability and safety rely critically on the following objectives:
- Quality of Engineering
- Effective use of Resources
- Completion of the works on Time
Keltbray-IDEC has the technical ability and in-depth knowledge to provide totally integrated control systems for either HV Protection or Control System Integration. This involves the combination of plant control with state of the art “intelligent” relay systems, giving communications and process control, load control, load shedding, tariff optimisation, generator control and automatic supply restoration.
Our engineers have designed, built, and commissioned most functional types of protection and system integration control schemes and are conversant with the major manufacturers of hardware and operating systems.
Our commitment is to identify the need accurately, providing our customers with the most flexible and cost-effective solution, giving full account of existing control systems and future expansion possibilities.
As a compliment to the above we have a fully equipped workshops and test facilities for the assembly of Control Panels, MCCs and HV Protection Panels, together with the programming and configuration of the PLC, RTUs and SCADA systems.
Keltbray-IDEC has been approved by Lloyds register to the following standards:
- ISO 14001:2015 (0006534)
- ISO 45001:2018 (0079248)
- ISO 9001:2015 (0079247)
We now have an IMS (Integrated Management System) and hold 1 certificate for all 3 standards.
Keltbray-IDEC is a Rockwell Certified Systems Integrator. Wherever possible, IDEC seeks to implement Rockwell Automatic best practices, for example developing the control network in line with the Rockwell and Cisco Validated Converged Plantwide Ethernet Model.
Keltbray-IDEC is also a COPA-DATA Registered Partner having installed several wind farm PLC and SCADA projects using the COPA-DATA SCADA platform.
Keltbray-IDEC have recently completed several wind farm PLC and SCADA projects both onshore and offshore, each including a PLC system, unified SCADA system with interfaces to other parties including WTG suppliers and NGET/NGESO, and communications systems for PQM and metering interfaces. In these wind farms, the IEC61850 protocol has been used successfully for control of remote switchgear and power quality meters with other protocols used for integrating with switchgear, PQMs, distributed temperature systems, etc.
Keltbray-IDEC are familiar with most industrial protocols including Ethernet/IP, DeviceNet, CIP, Modbus TCP and RTU, DNP3 over Serial and Ethernet, IEC60870-5-101, IEC60870-5-103, IEC60870-5-104, OPC-DA, OPC-UA and IEC61850.
Keltbray-IDEC achieved the Cyber Essentials accreditation in 2021 and has re-certified in 2022.
